Vicario says there is healthy competition between him and Grabara

Juventus’ first and second choice goalkeepers are two new players they added to their squad on loan during the latest transfer window.

After offloading Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin, Juve brought in Guglielmo Vicario on loan from Tottenham and Kamil Grabara on loan from Wolfsburg. Both players had been on their radar for some time, and the Bianconeri were convinced they had secured two good goalkeepers who could solve their problem in that position.

Vicario cannot be certain he will remain the first choice, with serious competition for the position between the two goalkeepers. The Tottenham loanee has started well, but he knows Grabara will be pushing him for regular opportunities.

Vicario faces competition at Juventus

Last season, Luciano Spalletti alternated his goalkeepers to show that he is not afraid to drop players in any position. That means Grabara can expect to get minutes if Vicario makes mistakes and has to be replaced in goal.

So far, Vicario has done well between the posts and will likely keep his place for a long time. However, Grabara will remain competitive and continue to push for opportunities as he attempts to challenge his teammate for the starting role.

The competition could benefit Juventus because both goalkeepers will know that their position is not guaranteed. Spalletti can demand high standards from both players while choosing the goalkeeper he believes is best suited to each match.

Vicario discusses rivalry with Grabara

The Tottenham loanee has now spoken about the rivalry between the two goalkeepers and praised Grabara’s quality. His comments suggest that there is respect between them despite the competition for the same position.

He said via Tuttomercatoweb:

“We all know each other more or less, I remember his great season in the Champions League with Copenhagen. He’s a strong, quality goalkeeper. There’s healthy competition between us, as it should be.”

Vicario will hope to remain Spalletti’s preferred choice, but Grabara has an opportunity to challenge him throughout the campaign. With both goalkeepers competing for the same role, Juventus can expect the battle to continue as the season progresses.
