Vicente Iborra says he could have joined Valencia in 2012-13, but he felt doing so would not have been ethical. Instead, Sevilla triggered his clause and signed him from Levante.

Speaking on Cadena SER’s Mano a mano podcast, Iborra said: "I could have waited a year at Levante and signed for Valencia on a free, but it did not feel right." He added: "Fortunately Sevilla came and paid the clause."

A Levante academy graduate, he broke into the first team, helped deliver several promotions and played European football with Levante.

He won three Europa Leagues with Sevilla, had a spell at Leicester in the Premier League, and lifted another Europa League with Villarreal. He also spent a season with Olympiakos in Greece.

He returned to Levante to fulfil the dream of promotion to the Primera División, then retired a year ago and joined the coaching staff.
