(Video) Achraf Hakimi delivers powerful message after being crowned 2025 African Player of the Year
Achraf Hakimi has been officially named the 2025 CAF African Player of the Year following prestigious ceremony held on Wednesday evening in Rabat, Morocco.
The Moroccan star who has been finalist for the past two year, finally climbed to the summit after remarkable season at both club and international level.
Hakimi delivered heartfelt speech upon receiving the trophy expressing pride in representing his country and continent:
"Alhamdulillah ... It is great honour to be here with you. Winning this prestigious African award fills me with pride"
He dedicated the award to the young generation in Morocco:
"This trophy is not mine alone — it belongs to every Moroccan child dreaming of standing here one day"
Hakimi also paid tribute to everyone who supported him throughout his rise: His family and especially his mother — His entourage and agents — PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi for believing in him "from day one" — His club teammates & coaching staff — Fouzi Lekjaa president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, for "raising Moroccan football to new heights".
He also praised Yassine Bounou congratulating the goalkeeper for winning the 2025 African Goalkeeper of the Year award.
Hakimi expressed special gratitude to Morocco coach Walid Regragui joking that he is "a difficult player to coach" before thanking him for his trust and leadership.
"We are proud of the work being done in Moroccan football. As Bono said, we will do everything we can – our biggest dream is to win the Africa Cup of Nations"
Hakimi closed his speech with emotional declaration:
"I grew, I worked and nothing was easy. But with the support of my family, my friends and everyone around me, I made it. I’m proud of my Moroccan identity ... Long live Morocco"
