They’ve done it! Liam Rosenior’s battling Blues have turned this game on its head once again, and now lead 3-2 in Naples.

If this score holds, it will be enough to send them through in the top 8, dodging a two legged playoff next month. For new man Rosenior and his tired squad, that would be absolutely huge.

Joao Pedro score again as Blues take advantage

Joao Pedro hammers in his finish.

It’s Joao Pedro again with the goal. The Brazilian scored the first goal, as well as grabbing a goal and an assist at the weekend. This was another great effort, this time on his right foot.

Once again Cole Palmer worked it through to him, sliding a clever through ball which had a defender spinning on the spot. JP showed great pace to beat the back line and get himself a one on one. He looked left to Alejandro Garnacho, which had the keeper hesitate, but then he decided to go alone. He drew the ball onto his right then hit it back across goal into the bottom corner.

There will be some nervy minutes to hold on here – but with Trevoh Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile now on to head balls away, we’re pretty confident. Let’s hope we don’t see anything crazy in these final moments. Getting two midweeks off in February would be a godsend.

Chelsea’s opening goal also came from Joao Pedro, a smashed finish on the run after Cole Palmer and Estevao linked up down the right to draw defenders in and make the striker some space.

The team news for the game had some interesting twists to it – a new formation for the Blues, which wasn’t too popular to start with.
