Argentine legend scores twice and assists as Miami secure postseason berth

Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to the MLS playoffs after resounding 4 - 0 victory away to New York City on Thursday night.

Messi decisive again

The Argentine maestro set up compatriot Baltasar Rodriguez for the opener in the 43 minute.

He then struck in the 74th before Luis Suarez added 3rd in the 83. Just 1 minute later, Messi capped the rout with stunning solo effort into the far corner.

Playoff ticket sealed early

With this result, Inter Miami reached 55 point climbing to 3rd in the Eastern Conference, 5 behind leaders Philadelphia & 3 adrift of Cincinnati while still holding 2 game in hand.

The win confirmed Miami's playoff spot with 5 match left as they sit 12 point clear of 10th placed New York Red Bulls who cannot catch them.

Race for the Golden Boot

Messi now leads the MLS scoring charts with 24 goal, 2 ahead of Los Angeles striker Denis Bouanga.

The playoffs kick off on October 22 & run through 6 Dec with Miami now firmly in the hunt for silverware.
