Sky Sports Italy has reportedly dismissed two staff member after they were caught celebrating Inter Milan goal live on air — a moment that quickly went viral.

The incident occurred during Inter Milan’s 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona last Sunday in Serie A. In stoppage time, Verona defender Martin Frese scored own goal in the 93 minute handing Inter dramatic win.

As the decisive goal went in — a live feed on Sky Sports 24 captured two employees in the newsroom visibly celebrating behind the news anchor — jumping and raising their arms in delight.

According to Italian journalist Francesco Ordine, the network’s editorial director Federico Ferri acted swiftly after the video surfaced:

"He immediately reprimanded the two interns and ordered them to leave the studio" Ordine reported..

Ferri later issued formal internal memo to staff emphasizing the importance of neutrality and professionalism, writing:

"Our newsroom was the protagonist of scene unworthy of our profession. Celebrating goal, regardless of the team is unacceptable especially when it happens on air. We must all remember that in the eyes of the public, there is no individual error. There is only Sky Sports".

He added that while the individuals involved were trainees, the responsibility extended to the entire editorial team:

"Football is sensitive subject and in the era of social media neutrality and composure are fundamental values for any media outlet".
