Tottenham were so close to a vital three points against Brighton this afternoon before a late equaliser by Georginio Rutter.
It wasn’t great defending by Spurs as they held onto a 2-1 lead late on, with Kevin Danso losing the ball in his own penalty area, allowing the ball to be squared to Rutter, who made no mistake with a clinical finish.
It looked like Xavi Simons had won it for Tottenham as he fired in a superb goal late on in the second half, but they couldn’t hold on and are now stuck in the relegation zone, with West Ham and Nottingham Forest above them also still having games in hand.
Watch below for the critical moment as Danso’s mistake was immediately punished…

Tottenham will have hired new manager Roberto De Zerbi to get them out of trouble, but so far it’s proving a tough job for the Italian tactician.
The north Londoners lost his first game in charge, 1-0 away to Sunderland, and could only manage a point at home to Brighton today.
Tottenham now just have five games left, and there are some tricky-looking fixtures in there…
