The Premier League season started last night with a win for Arsenal over Coventry, and it’s just one more game to get our first huge shock of the season.

Hull City are heavy favourites to go down this season, and any preseason preview you’ve seen in the last few weeks will have had them rock bottom. But they’ve opened their campaign with a simply sensational win over Manchester United at home.

The Tigers’ rock solid back three kept Michael Carrick’s team quiet all game, with none of their various attacking options any inroads whatsoever. Meanwhile the Yorkshire team’s wing backs threatened constantly, and Sergej Jakirović’s team got their reward with two well deserved goals in the first half.

Hull stay solid and pounce in two key moments

The first goal was a set piece – a great corner was flicked on at the near post and made its way into Ollie McBurnie at the far. His sliding attempt was brilliantly saved by Man U goalkeeper Senne Lammens, but the rebound fell to Semi Ayaji just a few yards out, and he slammed it into the net.

The way that Hull won the second and third balls in that passage of play summed up the whole game for both teams.

The second goal saw a deep free kick for Hull played brilliantly into the box at a perfect angle for Nobel Mendy to get a touch on it and see it fly past Lammens.
