LONDON, ENGLAND – AUGUST 30: Pedro Neto of Chelsea celebrates scoring his team’s second goal during the Premier League 2026/27 match between Chelsea FC and Brighton & Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge on August 30, 2026 in London, England. (Photo by Bryn Lennon/Getty Images)

The third came before half time. Joao Pedro has been in amazing form this season and he kept that up with another goal before the break. Jorrel Hato ran the length of the pitch and slid the ball across to JP, who was in perfect position to take a touch and put it past the goalkeeper.

He had missed a chance shortly before that, and will have been relieved to get on the score sheet.

You can see his goal in the clip embedded here:

The Blues then had a mighty wobble, conceding twice and looking ready to let in a third. But a few subs changed the balance, and soon Cole Palmer was on hand to sweep in a glorious fourth goal.

There was still time for Brighton to add a late third and hammer home the point that this team is a long way from the finished article. The defending is really shaky, and there simply aren’t enough midfield options with Enzo Fernandez on the way out and Moises Caicedo injured.

In other news…

Chelsea started the game really strongly with two early goals that set them on their way.
