Grêmio centre-back Viery has nailed down a starting spot across Brasileirão and Gauchão, standing out in the 3-0 Gre-Nal. According to Globo.com, a Newcastle representative watched from the Arena alongside one of the player's agents.
He is on a three-game run. He began with the semi-final draw with Juventude, conceding a penalty before equalising with a strike from outside the box.
He then started the win over Atlético-MG and the Gre-Nal, where a tackle and duel from him left the ball for Amuzu to score the second. The Premier League club have tracked the 21-year-old for some time.
Botafogo tried to sign him on loan this year with an option to buy, but Grêmio rejected the option as too low. The club instead extended his deal to the end of 2029, from mid-2027.
The new release clause is R$ 64 million domestically and €50 million for overseas clubs, equivalent to R$ 313 million at current rates. Left-footed, Viery has displaced Wagner Leonardo and made seven appearances under Luís Castro. He debuted in 2025 and also filled in at left-back out of necessity.
