Villarreal B honour their most devoted fan with surprise tribute

Villarreal B have paid a heartfelt tribute to Julián Antonio Marco González, the 55-year-old who is the only fan to travel the country to follow David Albelda’s side home and away.

He sensed something was coming, but only believed it when the squad emerged chanting his name at the Ciudad Deportiva José Manuel Llaneza, according to El Periódico Mediterráneo. Amid applause and smiles they presented him with a shirt, and when they tried to toss him in the air he declined, overcome by the moment.

He said he cried, that he loves them all, and that without his parents the team feels like his second family.

Julián says he follows the B team everywhere and often enjoys it even more than the first team, which he also attends. He has built friendships over many years and takes pride in the commitment, regardless of the cost. As he spoke, Carlos Maciá, a key figure who has already debuted for the first team, greeted him warmly.

He says the club always find him tickets, and he has been to grounds such as Nástic, Alcalá and Ibiza, almost everywhere. He reckons he has missed only one trip this year.

Part of the joy is watching youngsters develop, from Pau Navarro to Hugo López, Diatta and Rubén, a standout goalkeeper. He believes some will reach the first team, and his attention is already on the next match, whether at the Mini Estadi or on the road.
