Villarreal and Levante confirmed on Tuesday the season-long loan of Thiago Fernández for 2026/27, allowing the 22-year-old Argentine to continue in LaLiga after a positive stint at Real Oviedo.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, the agreement includes a purchase option for Levante in summer 2027, with Villarreal retaining buy back clauses should it be triggered. The approach mirrors the recent deal involving Dani Requena.
Levante was viewed as a favourable destination, as they play in LaLiga EA Sports this season and are based only a short distance from Vila-real. It keeps the player in a familiar environment without major adaptation.
After arriving in winter, Fernández played 16 LaLiga matches for Oviedo and supplied four assists. Raised at Vélez Sarsfield, he made 48 senior appearances before moving to Spain. Villarreal signed him as a free agent in January 2026 on a contract to June 2031.
Several non-EU players in Villarreal’s first team complicated his registration, so a move guaranteeing continuity was considered the best sporting solution. The club will track his progress closely.
Villarreal also confirmed that Hugo López will spend 2026/27 on loan at FC Andorra in LaLiga Hypermotion, with no option to buy, meaning he is set to return initially next summer.
López, 19 and a European under-19 champion with Spain this summer, has been at the club since alevín. He featured 36 times for Villarreal B in Primera Federación last season, scoring three and assisting four.
