Real Madrid’s pivotal contract meeting with Vinicius Junior on Wednesday set the two parties on the path to a renewal, with David Ornstein reporting for The Athletic that the club ultimately decided to make an improved contract offer to the winger.
There were significant financial differences between player and club going into Wednesday’s meeting, and there had been repeated suggestions in the Spanish media that Real Madrid were refusing to up their offer to the player.
Yet the club have now made a last-minute u-turn, raising their offer. This has pleased the player’s camp, with Rodra reporting for ESPN that they now feel optimistic about a renewal.

Real Madrid were open to selling Vinicius if he didn’t extend his contract, and Arsenal were positioning themselves to bid if that’s the direction the situation went in.
Some Spanish sources are now reporting that an agreement between Real and Vinicius has been reached, though many simply say that all parties believe that’s the direction of travel.
Whether the agreement is now done or not, any remaining belief in Arsenal doing a deal is fast disappearing.

Vinicius is widely considered one of the world’s best wingers, and he had another strong season in 2025/26, scoring 22 goals for Real Madrid and assisting another 14.
The player’s expiring contract opened up the door to a potential move, but his renewal will likely close that door for the rest of this decade.
