The intense atmosphere surrounding the FC Barcelona presidential election gave way to a rare moment of unity on Sunday night, as rivals Joan Laporta and Victor Font shared a public embrace after the result became clear.

The campaign had been marked by weeks of tension and reputational attacks from both camps, but once the outcome became undeniable, the two candidates briefly set aside their rivalry. With nearly 75% of the votes counted and Laporta approaching 70% of the total vote, the defeated challenger moved to acknowledge the result in person.

Font had already appeared before the media earlier in the evening while the vote count was still ongoing. Accepting that the election was slipping away from him, he congratulated Laporta and addressed journalists who had followed the campaign closely.

During that appearance, he promised to “keep fighting” and told reporters that “we will keep seeing each other,” thanking them for their coverage throughout the election period.

After finishing his remarks, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, Font walked toward Laporta’s tent to greet the re-elected Barcelona president personally. Dozens of cameras and microphones created a corridor as the two rivals met face to face.

The symbolic moment quickly unfolded as the pair embraced in front of the gathered media.

“Long live Barça and long live Catalonia,” Font began.

“Well said,” replied Laporta.

Font then turned the focus toward European ambitions and added, “Now, let’s win the Champions League.”

Laporta responded by pointing to the team’s immediate objectives, saying, “First, let’s eliminate Newcastle and keep going in the league like this—we already had a good match today.”

The two men then shared a second and final hug before stepping away. As they parted, both shouted “Long live Barça” before returning to their respective tents.

Moments after returning to his camp, Laporta celebrated the result with his team inside the tent, where the first act of the re-elected president was to sing the Barça anthem together with his staff.

For a club that has lived through weeks of division, that image may end up being one of the defining snapshots of election night: two rivals putting the battle aside, even if only for a moment, and joining in a shared hope for Barcelona’s future.
