Vitor Roque’s return to Palmeiras’ starting line-up ended worryingly, the forward forced off after 15 minutes with renewed pain in his left ankle during Thursday’s Copa do Brasil tie against Jacuipense.

According to Nosso Palestra, the injury followed a strong challenge by Vicente Reis on the right flank. The number nine immediately signalled to the bench, received on-pitch treatment, then departed on a stretcher looking visibly frustrated. Luighi came on in his place.

The striker has been troubled by the same ankle since the Paulista semi-finals in early March. He played the state final despite discomfort and appeared only sparingly in the Brasileirão before being sidelined for treatment.

He returned to action last Sunday, coming on in the closing minutes of a 1-0 win over Athletico-PR.

This first start since that cameo was cut short, adding to Palmeiras’ concerns over the forward’s condition.
