After Santos drew 1-1 with São Paulo on Wednesday night in the second round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, Juan Pablo Vojvoda said Neymar’s return will not be rushed.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the 33-year-old was again left out of the squad despite resuming ball work with the group, as the staff resist accelerating his comeback.

The head coach explained the forward remains in a physical adaptation phase and must be fully ready to pursue individual and team targets. He said Neymar is fully dedicated, wants the World Cup, and needs training intensity, including one v one duels, before stepping back in.

Vojvoda added that he and the squad need the player, but only when the conditions are right, noting Neymar’s impact is unlike anyone else’s.

Neymar is recovering from arthroscopy on his left knee carried out in December 2025 and has increased his workload since reporting back in January.

Santos visit Noroeste in Bauru on Sunday in the seventh round of the Campeonato Paulista. Until then, Neymar will be assessed daily to determine whether he can be named.
