Wales have won their first game in just under a calendar year after defeating Switzerland in a friendly game in Spain.

Despite featuring at Euro 2025, the Welsh side have struggled throughout the year, losing nine and drawing three of their previous fixtures.

There were positive signs in the 1-1 draw against South Korea last month though which have resulted in the Welsh returning to winning ways.

The Welsh took the lead in the 16th minute when Viola Calligaris' attempted headed clearance went more up than out allowing Sophie Ingle to take advantage.

That lead didn't last long though when Aurélie Csillag was played through and kept her cool before lifting the ball past Safia Middleton-Patel.

Wales went into half-time in the lead though after a looping free-kick from Ingle set Hannah Cain free  on goal and the Leicester City forward lifted the ball skilfully over the goalkeeper to make it 2-1.

Lily Woodham was introduced at half-time and the Liverpool defender scored with her first touch inside seconds when she struck at the far post.

The Swiss did reduce the deficit in the 70th minute to make it a nervy finish. Angharad James wasn't able to control a pass from Middleton-Patel which led to Iman Beney twisting and turning before making it 3-2.

After a difficult 2025 this win will give a changing Wales team hope for the next year.
