Walsall’s Darren Byfield says Rico Browne, Priestley Farquharson and Brandon Comley were carrying injuries before the final-day defeat at Bromley. According to ExpressAndStar.com, he confirmed the issues developed in the build-up to Saturday’s trip.

Farquharson and Browne missed the squad with knee and foot problems respectively, though Browne still travelled to Hayes Lane. Comley, who had been managing a knee issue across the last fortnight, was an unused substitute.

Byfield said several selections were enforced by fitness concerns, but injuries were no excuse and the squad is good enough to keep picking up results.

All three are among 13 players out of contract this summer, with an option year on Farquharson. Under EFL rules, clubs must notify players by the third Saturday in May, making this year’s deadline 16 May.

Comley is the longest-serving current player, with 151 appearances across four seasons. Farquharson’s Walsall spell since 2023 has been hampered by injuries, though he scored five in 35 games in all competitions in 2024-25.

Browne arrived in September 2024 and waited for his chance before switching to right-back late in the campaign. He featured in seven of the final 10 matches and has one goal in 21 league outings.
