Amos Wanjala added to his first Kenya senior call-up with another appearance, as McCarthy used him again despite a narrow loss to Guinea.
According to Superdeporte, the Valencia academy defender is on his first senior call-up. He won his first cap in the draw with Eritrea. He then came on against Guinea in the 87th minute, registering a tackle, one recovery, one of three duels won and four of five passes.
Kenya have begun Africa Cup of Nations qualifying poorly, the setback against Guinea leaving them third on one point, two behind Guinea and five behind South Africa, who await in November.
Wanjala joined Valencia’s academy in the last winter window. He had previously represented Kenya at youth level, notably with the under-20s.
His selection adds to the regular international presence from Valencia’s academy. In 2025/26, 30 academy players received call-ups across Europe, America and Africa. Wanjala is now a player his national coach is considering.
