Four things you can absolutely say for sure after this match.

Newcastle United were by a country mile the better team and dominated throughout, 10 corners and not a single one for Everton, 42 touches in the scousers’ penalty area, whilst the home team only 12 in Newcastle’s penalty area.

Newcastle United failed to make their absolute domination pay, they couldn’t get the two or three goals their overall play warranted.

Newcastle United were rightly awarded a penalty.

Everton were correctly denied a penalty.

If you don’t believe me, especially on those last two points, have a look at these highlights below.

TV replays clearly show Tarkowski throwing Sandro Tonali to the ground, the most obvious of penalties.

TV replays clearly show Calvert-Lewis kicked Dan Burn, the most obvious of non-penalties.

In the second supposedly ‘controversial’ incident, Nick Pope made a very good save from Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the 67th minute but couldn’t get it to safety, the Everton striker then tries to go for the rebound but kicks Dan Burn as he tries to connect with the ball. Idrissa Gueye does though get to the rebound and somehow misses an open goal, blazing the ball over the bar.

After Nick Pope saves the ball, Dan Burn goes to clear it, only for Calvert-Lewin to foul him, not the other way round!

Not only was it never a penalty in a million years, surely even if Gueye had scored, the ‘goal’ would have had to be disallowed for the foul on Burn, as the Newcastle defender would have cleared it, if Calvert-Lewin hadn’t hacked him down from behind.
