Nestory Irankunda could make the Hornets a significant amount of money if he keeps up his early season form.

Watford have had a mixed start to the new Championship season under Paulo Pezzolano.

The Hornets have currently collected five points from four league matches heading into the first international break, sitting in 14th place as they hope to push towards the promotion places.

An encouraging point at home to Southampton could inspire confidence as they host Blackburn Rovers on September 13th, a game they will surely be targeting maximum points from.

Despite sitting mid-table at the moment, the Watford faithful have been impressed by the early form of Nestory Irankunda, who has burst onto the Championship scene and raised eyebrows with some impressive performances.

Watford signed the forward from Bayern Munich back in July on a five-year contract, and the youngster has shown signs of promise in the early days of his Hornets career.

If he can carry on that type of form, he could command a significant transfer fee later down the line, particularly more than what is being banded about at the moment for playmaker Giorgi Chakvetadze.

Nestory Irankunda’s early form for Watford

It’s safe to say that Nestory Irankunda is already making a name for himself in a Watford shirt, endearing himself to the supporters with two goals and an assist from his opening four Championship outings.

After making his debut for the club in an opening-day defeat to Charlton, Irankunda picked up his first attacking contribution in a narrow 2-1 victory over QPR, setting up Luca Kjerrumgaard for the opening goal of the game.

The following week, the Australian netted his maiden goal for the club in emphatic fashion against Swansea City, curling in a sublime free-kick into the far left-hand corner to the delight of the away end.

And his early form was typified by another terrific strike from a free-kick last weekend against Southampton, this time curling into the far-right corner past a despairing Gavin Bazunu, which again sent the Vicarage Road crowd into a frenzy.

While he may not have netted from opening play so far this season, he’s turning into a dead ball specialist, which is something the Watford team needs if they’re not performing at their best in certain games.

At just the age of 19, Irankunda is already showing glimpses of the quality he possesses, and it could be signs that we are seeing the next Championship wonderkid emerging.

Speaking on his performances, Watford boss Paulo Pezzolano played down Irankunda’s immediate impact, insisting that he must maintain it over a longer period of time.

Pezzolano said: "Nestory hasn't accomplished anything yet.

"We know that he has so much more to give, and the most important thing is that he keeps on working.

"We know about his quality and while we didn't expect those free-kicks in such a short amount of time, we know he is very good at them.

"I am going to stay on top of Nestory. He has to keep on growing, keep on developing. We cannot settle for that."

Watford fans will be excited that Nestory Irankunda can have a big part to play this season

Nestory Irankunda looks a seriously exciting prospect, with these opening four games showing he has so much to offer this Watford side in the future.

He has a lot of room to develop and get better too at such a young age, and if this Watford system can continue to get the best out of him, then the Hornets will be looking at serious money when bigger clubs from the top-flight come calling.

By the time Watford cross that bridge, they will be hopeful that this attacking talent will have helped the club to be in contention for a return to the Premier League, with the club needing these types of quality assets to challenge back towards the top end of the table.

If that isn’t the case, then at least Watford could return a very sizeable profit to bolster their squad for future years, but right now, they need to keep his feet firmly on the ground and not let these performances get to his head.

Irankunda has the potential to command a much higher fee than the reported £20m fee Watford were holding out for late last year for Giorgi Chakvetadze too, which provides optimism that the club will be in much healthier financial waters in the coming years to help them work towards returning to their heydays of being Premier League regulars.
