Watford beat Derby County 2-0 at Vicarage Road to climb from 12th to ninth in the Championship, as the visitors slipped to eighth.

In the fifth minute, Luca Kjerrumgaard fired the Hornets in front from the centre of the box.

The Hornets then lost Othmane Maamma to injury (23.), with Giorgi Chakvetadze introduced.

After the restart, Josh Vickers denied Nestory Irankunda with a sharp stop (48.). Egil Selvik later clawed away a Carlton Morris header (72.) as Derby chased an equaliser.

Substitute Mamadou Doumbia settled it, turning in Marc Bola's pass (90.).

Derby delivered a stream of Joe Ward crosses but lacked a final touch.

The Hornets registered 18 attempts with eight on target. Derby produced five attempts and worked Selvik only once.
