The Hornets made the decision to sack Paulo Pezzolano despite picking up seven points from their previous three games, which left the team sitting 11th in the table.

Gracia was named as his successor almost immediately, with the Spaniard returning to the club after a previous spell that saw the club record a top-half Premier League finish and reach the FA Cup final.

Even though the transfer window is shut, it seems Gracia is keen to strengthen the squad, and it appears another return to Vicarage Road could be on the cards, as the Daily Mail has revealed the Championship side want to sign Dennis.

The 27-year-old has been without a club since his Nottingham Forest contract expired in the summer, and if he did make the move to Watford, it would be his third time at the club.

Dennis initially joined when they were a Premier League outfit, and he enjoyed a hugely prolific 2021/22 campaign, where he scored ten goals in the league, which prompted Forest to splash out on the forward.

More recently, the Nigerian international returned to the Hornets for the second half of the 2023/24 season, and whilst he only managed four goals, Dennis did impress at times.

Now, he could be back at Watford, as the update explained that whilst Dennis had initially wanted to continue his career at a ‘top league’, he is now open to returning to the Championship.

Emmanuel Dennis could be a gamble worth taking for Watford

Obviously, Watford fans know all about Dennis as a player, and there’s no denying that if he did get near his best, he would be a massive player in the Championship.

As well as that, at 27, Dennis would bring some know-how and experience to what is a very young attacking unit right now, and the likes of Nestory Irankunda and Kwadwo Baah, in particular, could benefit from Dennis’ arrival.

A return of 11 goals in nine games shows that Watford are missing some spark in the final third, so Dennis may be able to help the team improve in that department.

Of course, there are some issues with the deal, and Gracia, who has not managed Dennis before, will need to believe that the former Club Brugge man is motivated and committed to helping the team.

If he feels that Dennis can contribute, it’s a relatively low-risk move on a short-term contract, and he could certainly help Watford as they look to kick-on under Gracia.
