Vincent Kompany provided an update on the team’s roster ahead of FC Bayern’s Champions League opener against Bodo/Glimt. While Serge Gnabry can hope to play, Jamal Musiala is still being brought back gradually.
On Thursday, FC Bayern will face FK Bodo/Glimt at home at 9 p.m. Vincent Kompany left open whether Serge Gnabry will already be back in the lineup.
“We’ll have to see how Serge Gnabry is doing and talk after practice; he might play. But we want to make sure he’s feeling his best,” explained the Bayern coach.
It therefore remains to be seen whether Gnabry will be an option against Bodo/Glimt. The Bayern star has been sidelined for an extended period. An adductor injury kept Gnabry out of action. Consequently, the forward has been brought back into action cautiously following his injury.
Recently, however, Gnabry has been able to increase his workload and train fully with his teammates again. According to Kompany’s statements, it remains to be seen whether he’ll be ready to return to the matchday roster just yet.
Kompany is also urging patience regarding Jamal Musiala. The star forward made his comeback last weekend in the 0-0 draw at Schalke, playing 33 minutes.
“Jamal Musiala has now played some minutes, but he’s still in the process of getting back to full fitness,” Kompany clarified. At the same time, the coach expressed satisfaction with his young player’s progress: “He’s been feeling good since he started training with the team again.”
After his long break, Musiala is now set to be gradually brought back to his previous level of activity. Although Kompany already sees good progress in the 23-year-old, he doesn’t want to rush his return.

„We’re as close to normal as possible, but we also have to be patient,“ the Bayern coach emphasized.
For FC Bayern, the new Champions League season kicks off on Thursday against Bodø/Glimt. Whether Gnabry will be back in the squad for the first time and how many minutes Musiala will be able to play after his comeback will likely be decided after the final training session.
