Sheffield Wednesday have formally announced that midfielder Liam Shaw will leave for Celtic at the end of the season.
The teenager’s deal was up at the end of the season and he signed a pre-contract with the Glasgow club last month.
However, the Owls have revealed that they are investigating the matter and are unhappy with Celtic’s conduct in relation to the transfer.
Wednesday were eager to avoid making details of the deal public but feel that their hand has been forced by recent events.
“We were contacted by Celtic informing the club of their intention to formally confirm this development, which was revealed by the former Celtic manager [Neil Lennon] in a media briefing,” read a Wednesday statement.
“Both clubs exchanged statements in advance of a coordinated release but Celtic have since ceased correspondence to this end.
“Shaw remains a Sheffield Wednesday player until the expiry of his current contract and will be available for selection for the remainder of the season.”
The Bhoys have yet to officially announce the signing of Shaw.
