🇧🇷 Week 8️⃣ of the Brasileirão sees local hostilities renewed | OneFootball

We have reached Matchday Eight in the the 2022 Brasileirão, and there are some tasty derby treats for us to feast on this weekend.

Fluminese host their fierce Rio de Janeiro rivals Flamengo at the Maracanã, while São Paulo will be on edge as Santos and Palmeiras do battle in the Vila Belmiro.

Santos v Palmeiras

Santos will be looking to bring a halt to two unbeaten streaks their neighbours are currently enjoying.

Palmeiras have not tasted defeat in their last 13 matches, and also have not lost to the Peixe since 2019.

Santos may lie in sixth place in the table, but they are only a point behind the Verdão such is the tight nature of the early running in this year’s campaign.

It promises to be some atmosphere in front of an expectant full house on Sunday!

Fluminense v Flamengo

Flamengo manager Paulo Sousa could probably have done without this derby coming at this juncture.

The Rubro-Negro are currently languishing in 14th, despite last weekend’s narrow victory over Goiás.

While they have cruised through their Copa Libertadores group, they have had a difficult start on the domestic front.

They have suffered four defeats and a draw in their last five encounters with the Tricolor, including losing the Campeonato Carioca final back in March.

Fluminense come into Sunday’s game in seventh spot, and also on the back of a record Conmebol 10-1 win over Bolivian side Oriente Petrolero in the Copa Sudamericana on Thursday.

Goiás v Red Bull Bragantino

A mid-table clash is on the menu at the Estádio da Serrinha on Saturday.

Red Bull Bragantino are placed just outside the top 12 with nine points. Goiás are just a point behind, but will be looking for a win that would put some more distance between themselves and the relegation zone.

São Paulo vs Ceará

With most of the other big hitters not playing until the following day, São Paulo will have the chance to go top (at least temporarily) on Saturday.

Rogério Ceni’s side have struggled for consistency so far this season, but have a massive incentive to getting back in the winning habit after last week’s draw with leaders Corinthians.

Ceará have earned credible draws against Flamengo and Santos recently, but the Vozão need more than that if they are to start climbing up from 19th position.

Fortaleza v Juventude

It’s a basement battle at the Castelão, where Fortaleza entertain fellow strugglers Juventude.

The hosts are in most desperate need of the points, seeing as they only have one to their name so far this season.

Juventude are not that much better off, as they sit two places above their stricken opponents in 18th with six points.

Coritiba v Botafogo

Higher up the table we move as continental hopefuls Coritiba and Botafogo do battle at the Couto Pereira on Sunday.

The visitors lie in fifth, just outside the automatic Copa Libertadores places.

Coritiba start the weekend in eighth, but could start pushing towards the top four themselves with a win.

Corinthians v América-MG

Corinthians look to stay on top of the pile when they entertain América-MG.

The Timão are two points clear at the summit, but have failed to win their last two league outings. After draws with São Paulo and Internacional, Vítor Pereira’s side will be desperate to record their fifth win of the term.

América-MG are unlikely to be pushovers, however, as they look to build on the 10 points they have amassed so far.

Cuiabá v Athletico Paranaense

Both sides will see this as a massive opportunity to boost their chances of a successful year.

Cuiabá lie just above the relegation zone, and a win would help them move closer to mid-table safety.

Athletico Paranaense are in that cluster of teams jostling for Copa Sudamericana spots, and will be hoping to follow up on their success over Avaí last weekend.

Atlético Mineiro v Avaí

Atlético Mineiro have made a decent start in the defence of their title, but will need to overcome Avaí if they are to keep pace with those who wish to dethrone them.

The Galo are two points off the top in fourth spot, and will expect to make home advantage count at the Mineirão.

Avaí have suffered two defeats on the trot, and have their work cut out for them if they are to avoid a third consecutive loss.

Internacional v Atlético Goianiense

Internacional aim to shed their draw specialists tag as the Colorado try to avoid registering a fifth straight league stalemate when they face Atlético Goianiense on Monday.

That run of results has seen them slip to 11th in the table, and leaves them with work to do in order to get back intp the top four.

Atlético-GO have less lofty ambitions, however, as they look to edge out of the drop zone.

It has all the makings of another fabulous weekend of Brasileirão action!
