Wendie Renard has denounced a deepfake video that misused an old interview to push an artificial intelligence investment, with media logos added to lend credibility. The Lyon player has publicly denied any involvement.

"It is completely a scam. Playing with people's money in a life that is already difficult, that is not me. I am not a banking adviser, I am saddened and angry," she told Radio Caraïbes International.

Shared on social media, the clip repurposed past footage to make it appear she was launching a new investment project based on AI. It showed her answering a journalist, and logos of several outlets were overlaid.

On Monday 20 April she said in a post that the video does not reflect her words, values or position, and urged people to stay vigilant against such manipulation.

On Tuesday she lodged a complaint for identity theft through her lawyer, Laurent Burgy. "Not only does she not want this to harm her image, she wants to protect those who could be scammed," he said, adding that "Wendy is not an influencer" and "the only place she wishes to engage is the pitch".
