Florian Plettenberg reports that Werder Bremen are actively speaking with Danish “Mainz rescuers” Bo Henriksen and Bo Svensson about their vacant head coaching position. SV licensing head Clemens Fritz is on record as stating that he wishes to install a head coach with “experience” at helping a Bundesliga club survive relegation. The two Danish “Bos” fit the profile, having both done so for the same German top flight club.
Of the two, Get German Football News considers it likelier that Henriksen would be interested in the position. Svensson’s ill-fated stint with Union Berlin (only 17 games in the autumn of 2024) surely leaves him reticent to take on a squad so rife with issues as Bremen. Henriksen’s personality also renders him a more likely selection for a club and team struggling with a sense of identity.
Both men may nevertheless be disinclined to take on the position as they happen to know full well that the personnel executive responsible for installing them in the job may himself be on the way out soon. Bremen shall encounter a great deal of difficulty finding their next head coach. Any coach knows full well that the job comes with massive risks that could taint their overall career prospects.
If one were to hazard a guess, probably neither Svensson nor Henirksen will take the job even if offered. The Hanseatic city-state simply doesn’t appear a good fit for either one of them at this point in time.
