Werder Bremen have reinforced their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Alexander Schlager from RB Salzburg. In line with club practice, the contract length has not been disclosed.
According to BuLi News, the move is free of charge despite Schlager being under contract at RB Salzburg until summer 2027.
The Austrian national team’s World Cup goalkeeper now embarks on his first professional spell abroad in Germany’s top flight.
The 30-time international is set to compete directly with Karl Hein for the starting goalkeeper position.
Bremen head of football Peter Niemeyer believes Schlager will fit in well on and off the pitch. He said the club will enter the season with a strong goalkeeping group that continually challenges one another, which was their aim for the position.
Niemeyer added that, like all World Cup players, Schlager will join the team after the training camp in the Zillertal.
