Werder Bremen sign Arthur on loan as 14th and final summer arrival | OneFootball

Werder Bremen have signed Brazilian full-back Arthur on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, their 14th and final addition of the summer.

According to Get German Football News, the 23-year-old joins until the end of 2026/27 and, unlike Youri Regeer and Moussa Ndiaye, there is no purchase option.

Arthur has 44 Bundesliga appearances, 13 in the Champions League, and was in Leverkusen’s unbeaten league and DFB-Pokal double in 2024.

Full-back was a remaining need in Daniel Thioune’s plans, with wide defenders asked to attack in possession and flip between a back four and other shapes.

Senegal international Moussa Ndiaye also arrived on loan from Anderlecht. The 24-year-old strengthens the left and can cover centrally, and Werder hold a purchase option.

Injuries forced late tweaks. Top scorer Jens Stage suffered a serious thigh injury that rules him out until at least year end, prompting Ajax midfielder Regeer’s loan with a reported €5m option.

Justin Njinmah then sustained a thigh problem in the 4-1 loss at Freiburg and will miss months, leaving last season’s top two Bundesliga scorers out, Stage with 10 and Njinmah with five.

Bremen chose not to add a winger, optimistic Njinmah could return around November, and instead focused resources on full-backs. That shifts more onus to Marco Grüll, Eren Dinkçi and Paul Erevbenagie.

Arthur’s attacking thrust on the right suits a 4-3-3 and keeps 4-4-2 or 3-5-2 available, and Bremen believe his arrival completes the squad for the months ahead.
