Speculation over Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has intensified, but former Manchester United defender Wes Brown doubts a third Manchester United stint. The 40-year-old is said to be unhappy at Al-Nassr and could seek a move as he pursues 1,000 career goals.

"He’s not happy but would Cristiano Ronaldo come back to Manchester United for a third go? I would say no. I can't see how that could happen. A move to MLS? Maybe. Maybe he goes back to Portugal and plays there. I’m sure he will still have so many options," he told BettingLounge.

"The main thing is that he still wants to play in the World Cup and we would have to keep playing and making sure he keeps himself fit to do that. It’s a shock to everyone to see Ronaldo on strike but I honestly think it will get resolved. We’ll have to wait and see where it goes from here."

Ronaldo joined Al-Nassr in 2023 after leaving United and has scored freely, lifting only the 2023 Arab Club Champions Cup. Al-Nassr are a point behind Al-Hilal after 19 league games. He has reportedly felt let down after the Public Investment Fund helped move Karim Benzema from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal.

A United return would be surprising, with clubs in MLS and Europe thought to be monitoring his situation. His Al-Nassr contract is said to contain a €50 million (£43m/$59m) release clause. It is unclear when any strike will end, and Al-Nassr play Al-Ittihad on Friday evening.
