Leicester City have signed Ipswich Town winger Wes Burns for an undisclosed fee, the Wales international becoming Russell Martin’s sixth summer addition. The move bolsters a right flank left light after Abdul Fatawu’s departure.

Burns has agreed a three-year contract. LeicesterMercury.co.uk understands City have paid £75,000.

He reunites with Conor Chaplin at the King Power Stadium after the pair helped Ipswich secure back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.

Burns began at Bristol City, taking loans with Forest Green Rovers, Oxford United, Cheltenham Town, Fleetwood Town and Aberdeen. He joined Fleetwood permanently in 2017, then moved to Ipswich while they were in League One.

At Portman Road he made 164 appearances and scored 30 goals. Last month he signed a one-year extension with the newly promoted side to avoid a free departure.

He arrives before this weekend’s Carabao Cup first round tie at Northampton Town. Will Alves and teenager Riley Carr have featured on the right in pre-season, with Alves set to return after missing friendlies against Coventry City and Genoa. Carr has impressed Martin but remains a candidate to leave on loan for regular senior football.
