Wesley Fofana has responded in an interview to criticism of his attitude in games last season from Chelsea fans.

Wesley Fofana has been one of the more unpopular Chelsea signings in recent years. Bought for a massive fee and then consistently injured (neither of which were his fault) the Frenchman rather turned fans against him last year with a perceived lack of care about the team’s disastrous situation and his own shocking performances.

Fofana rejects claims of bad attitude

“To be honest, people in the club know about my mentality. In football, things can be like this,” Fofana said in quotes picked up by Football.London.

“When the team lose and not in a good way, we need to find someone [to blame] and be like, ‘oh, it’s him, oh, it’s him’. I can accept that. I am okay with that; the club bought me for a very big transfer [fee].

“I came with ambition to be the best in my position and to help the team. So when things go in a bad way, I accept to be the guy [to blame]. When I’m on the bench a lot [and laugh], it’s not a big thing.

“People try to make it a big thing, do a big story, things like this. The most important thing for me is that the club know my mentality, my teammates know my mentality.
