West Brom are working to complete the signing of Chelsea striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan for around £1.3m, with a move for Liverpool defender Carter Pinnington also close, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

Morgan, 20, is an England youth international who hit 14 goals on loan at Peterborough in League One last season. Albion believe he can step up to the Championship.

Pinnington, 19, is regarded as having high potential and will start out with the under-21s.

The pursuit of targets marks a front-foot approach from Albion. Bilkul, the owners, faced major profit and sustainability pressures on arriving in February 2024, which effectively forced sales before buys and the need to post a tidy trading profit. That work should now enable a more proactive window.

Boss James Morrison has stayed in close contact with director of football operations Ian Pearce and technical director Dominic Price through the summer.

Goalkeeper Max O’Leary remains the only player to have agreed terms, signing a three-year deal. Albion are hopeful of keeping striker Josh Maja and forward Karlan Grant.

The coaching staff will be finalised, with Morrison keen for Matt Gill to continue as assistant on a permanent basis. He has stressed recruitment must prioritise quality over quantity, and says changes are needed.
