Issac Price, Josh Maja and Aune Heggebo all getting back on the scoresheet has given Albion a big boost in their race for survival.

West Brom secured a long-awaited victory last weekend to boost their Championship survival hopes.

James Morrison’s men swept aside play-off hopefuls Hull City 3-0 in front of a raucous Hawthorns crowd, claiming their first victory since the end of December and leapfrogging out of the second tier dropzone.

While this result won’t define whether they stay up this term, it could well provide a springboard for more positive results to follow, with the Black Country outfit travelling to Ashton Gate to clash with Bristol City next weekend.

Since moving to a 4-4-2 formation following a damaging defeat away at Oxford United in Morrison’s first interim game back in charge, the Baggies have been able to be so much more free-flowing and dangerous going forward, while they seem to have struck the right balance with their defensive duties by keeping a first clean sheet in over a month too.

Meanwhile, the fact Albion scored three goals in a single game is a huge boost for the rest of the season, proving that this team can be clinical and put teams to the sword when they’re playing in the right system and positions.

And with three forward players netting for the first time in a while against the Tigers, it could well do wonders for their confidence and help inspire the team to secure their Championship survival, leaving the likes of Leicester City increasingly worried about relegation becoming a reality.

To mark their first win in nearly three months, West Brom did it in some style by dominating Hull City in a one-sided affair at The Hawthorns.

After surviving some early defensive mishaps from George Campbell, the Baggies took a deserved lead, as Ivor Pandur’s poor goal-kick was seized upon by Jed Wallace, who fired a wicked low delivery across and was converted at close range by Josh Maja, with the ‘Major’ grabbing just his second goal of a difficult campaign and a first strike since October 2025.

And it got from bad to worse for Hull when they were reduced to 10 men, as defender Charlie Hughes brought down Wallace just outside the penalty area after being robbed of possession by the ex-Millwall man, although replays suggested that a red card was harsh, as the ball appeared to be running through to Pandur.

From then on, it was all Albion, and only a matter of time before they doubled their advantage.

They did have to wait until the 67th minute though, with substitute Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba making an instant impact, taking on Jayson Molumby’s through ball and fizzing it across the penalty area, where it was glanced home superbly by Aune Heggebo, who got on the scoresheet for the first time since last December.

And the Baggies added a third deep into stoppage time, with right-back Danny Imray capping off a Man of the Match display by cutting the ball back for Isaac Price to slam home from close range and ensure that the Northern Ireland international netted his first strike since the middle of January.

Interim boss James Morrison seems to be getting a tune out of what has been such an underperforming West Brom squad, with their convincing victory over Hull proving that they do have what it takes to be competitive against all sides in the division.

The positive results have particularly been yielded through a switch to an old-fashioned 4-4-2 system, with it earning points against Sheffield United and Southampton and then seeing maximum points taken against the Tigers.

Meanwhile, all three scorers have ended massive droughts in front of goal, and it will be imperative that they keep finding the back of the net between now and the end of the season to keep their survival hopes intact.

The likes of Josh Maja, Aune Heggebo and Isaac Price have all proven in the past that they can be dangerous forces at this level when going through purple patches, but their inability to be consistent has seen Albion fall into this precarious position.

They do have the quality to get the Baggies out of this mess, but they must ensure that this display against Hull wasn’t a one-off and generate more positive momentum ahead of a defining period for the football club.

If those players can keep themselves fully fit and keep firing, then it would be huge for the Baggies and would surely see them comfortably survive, putting such a poor spell for the club behind them.

The likes of Leicester City will be shaking in their boots that the Baggies have found that type of performance and result last weekend, particularly after the Foxes came crashing back down to earth with a disappointing 3-1 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers.
