Albion are pushing to sign Manchester United midfielder Toby Collyer in a permanent deal, amid rival interest from Hull City.
According to ExpressAndStar.com, the Baggies believe they have pulled clear in the race for the 22-year-old Old Trafford midfielder and a permanent transfer could cost around £3million.
James Morrison wants a final midfield recruit after Alex Mowatt’s exit to Derby County on the eve of the season. The left-footed Collyer would complement Ousmane Diakite, Jayson Molumby, Felix Horn Myhre and Rabby Nzingoula.
Collyer’s loans at The Hawthorns and with the Tigers last season were injury-hit. Muscle problems limited him to 12 appearances, three starts, before a January recall, then he featured five times for promotion-winners Hull, with one start.
The former Brighton youngster joined United in 2022, has undergone a fully fit pre-season and is believed to be ready for competitive action. Middlesbrough, who host Albion on Saturday lunchtime, are also said to have been interested.
“Why not? Toby is, for me, a good player. We can improve him a lot, but the main thing is that he stays healthy.” He told Hull Live.
Albion also want another striker before Tuesday night’s deadline. Right-back cover for Nolan Galves remains unclear given the rise of Alex Williams, 21, who shone at Newcastle in midweek.
