West Brom player tipped for exit after 4-year Baggies stint - it's "time to part ways"

The winger is out of contract this summer.

West Brom's season hung somewhat on a knife-edge with the threat of a points deduction looming over them at the end of the season, but despite that sanction now being in place, the Baggies are safe from the drop anyway.

It was reported that the EFL could punish the Baggies for breaching PSR rules, and that they did, with two points coming off their total on Friday evening prior to their home clash with Ipswich Town this past weekend.

Their goalless draw against the Tractor Boys though meant for the second time in the space of a week, Albion guaranteed their Championship safety.

With their immediate future now clear, the Black Country club can now start to plan for the future - and one of their senior stars may have played his last game already.

Jed Wallace tipped to leave West Brom this summer

When Jed Wallace arrived from Millwall in 2022, there was reason to be excited about his potential impact at The Hawthorns.

The right-winger had been a consistent performer in the second tier for the Lions, having amassed 42 goals and 49 assists during his six-and-a-half years at the club.

Fast-forward four years, and it would be fair to say that Wallace has left his mark in the Black Country, but with the 32-year-old out injured and out of contract in the summer, there is reason to believe he may have kicked his last ball for the Baggies.

When asked whether he thought the Englishman had played his final game for the club, FLW's West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess couldn't help but agree.

"I'd say that Jed Wallace is likely to have played his final game for West Brom with him starting to age a bit now, although he's a brilliant member to have in the dressing room," Burgess told Football League World.

"He's not really as quick as he once was, and although when he was in the side on the right wing of Morrison's 4-4-2, he was starting to show some real positive signs.

"I think that it's probably time that he and Albion do part ways."

Jed Wallace showed his best under Steve Bruce and Carlos Corberan

In his first season at The Hawthorns, Wallace delivered his best numbers in the blue and white stripes, notching six goals and five assists for Steve Bruce and Carlos Corberan, while he started every single game.

Indeed, in the 2022/23 campaign, the winger produced some outstanding underlying statistics, ranking in the top 5% of wingers in the Championship for chances created, successful dribbles and successful crosses, according to Futmob.

Ultimately, his attacking contributions were not enough as the Baggies missed out on the play-offs by three points after Corberan took the reins from Bruce.

"In his first season, he did really well for us, where we began with Bruce and then ended with Carlos Corberon, just missing out on the play-offs," Callum added.

"That was, I'd say, his best season for us. I think that the following season, he was starting to show signs of decline."

Has Jed Wallace been an underwhelming signing for the Baggies?

During the 2023-24 campaign, Wallace continued to pose a threat for West Brom, almost equaling his numbers from the previous season, but his impact has waned since.

Over the last two campaigns, the 32-year-old has contributed just four goals and three assists in all competitions, although it would be fair to point out that injuries have hampered his opportunities.

When asked whether Wallace would go down as an underwhelming signing, Burgess delivered a measured response: "I probably wouldn't say he was underwhelming, but I'd say maybe okay at best.

"Personally, I'd say myself, I think that he had some positive moments for us, and he's been a great member to have in the squad, but I think now it's definitely time to part ways."

While Wallace has certainly provided some memorable moments and top performances in a Baggies shirt, there ultimately comes a time when players must move on.

Given his injury record this season and contract situation, it does feel like the right time for the player and club to part ways, and it would also provide West Brom with the right opportunity to embark on a rebuild they so desperately need.

While the winger would certainly have loved to bid farewell in the blue and white stripes, he will surely be in attendance to receive the applause he deserves.
