West Bromwich Albion are pushing for further signings after making Barney Stewart their first addition of the summer. The 22-year-old striker arrived from Falkirk in a deal initially worth about £1.3 million, confirmed on Wednesday.

Talks over a move for Chelsea’s Jimmy-Jay Morgan are at an advanced stage, and the Baggies are close to landing teenage prospect Carter Pinnington from Liverpool. The club want early inroads in the first window since Bilkul Group’s 2024 takeover, when the primary focus is not on reducing losses.

Albion have been in talks with Karlan Grant over a new deal, while striker Josh Maja has been offered a new contract.

Boss James Morrison is expected to finalise his coaching staff, with negotiations under way with Celtic about bringing Gavin Strachan to The Hawthorns.

Stewart’s rise has been rapid, the forward only making his professional debut last year. London-born, he was spotted by Falkirk while playing as an amateur for Heriot Watt University after moving to Scotland to study sports science.

He scored 19 goals in his first full professional season, including 10 in the Scottish Premiership after being recalled from a loan at Dunfermline.

That form drew interest from several English clubs, and Albion have won the race for his signature. The fee represents a club-record sale for Falkirk.

“I’m so excited by the challenge of playing in the Championship. I’m very confident that I can score the goals here at Albion, just like I did last year for Dunfermline and Falkirk. I’m a confident person and I’ll always back myself,” he told WBA TV.
