Sunderland are still working to land a second summer signing as Regis Le Bris looks to deepen his squad for a busy campaign. Wide additions are a focus, with Ernest Poku competition emerging and Patrick Roberts linked with a Tony Mowbray reunion.
According to Bild, Sunderland have shown interest in Netherlands Under-21 winger Ernest Poku but are yet to bid. Bayer Leverkusen are said to want about £21.5m and, with Moussa Diaby set to return, Poku is considered available. The report adds that Fiorentina have opened talks and that a deal could change quickly.
So far, Belgium international Thomas Meunier is the only arrival, signing a two-year contract at the Stadium of Light after leaving Lille.
A move for Toulouse left-back Dayann Methalie is on hold after medical tests flagged an issue that needs further attention. The agreement for the France Under-21 defender could still proceed and has not collapsed.
It is just under a year since Patrick Roberts left for Birmingham City on loan, a switch made permanent in January. He produced five goals and four assists in 37 appearances. He could be set to reunite with Mowbray at Blackburn, having delivered five goals and eight assists in 61 games under him at Sunderland as the manager prepares for the first season of his second spell.
