Sunderland's interest in Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Omlin provides a huge Anthony Patterson boost
Sunderland have made a move to sign Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Omlin this January, providing the likes of West Brom, Queens Park Rangers, and Millwall with a significant boost in their pursuit of Anthony Patterson.
As per Pete O'Rourke, Premier League outfit Sunderland has opened talks with German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach over the potential signing of Swiss goalkeeper Jonas Omlin.
The Black Cats signed Dutch goalkeeper Robin Roefs during the summer from NEC Nijmegen to replace Anthony Patterson in goal at The Stadium of Light, leaving the Englishman on the bench for the entirety of this season.
Patterson has been heavily linked with a move back to the Championship this month, having played a key role in Sunderland's promotion only last season.
Alan Nixon reported that the likes of Leicester City, Southampton, and Queens Park Rangers were all eyeing moves for the out-of-favour Patterson, with Millwall later emerging as a potential destination.
Now, as Football League World exclusively revealed, West Brom have joined the race for the goalkeeper this month, with each of the chasing back receiving a massive boost in their pursuit of him, following Sunderland's interest in Omlin.

Indeed, West Brom have joined the race for Patterson this month, with the Baggies' defence being, at best, leaky at this point in time.
Ryan Mason made the bold decision to drop Josh Griffiths in goal and give Joe Wildsmith a chance in net, but that choice did not work as he had hoped, and the former Hull City and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder would lose his post in The Hawthorns dugout not long after.
Former Minnesota United boss Eric Ramsay has since taken charge of the Midlands outfit, but has lost his opening two games, conceding eight goals in that time, including five at home to Norwich City.
West Brom are in desperate need of some stability at the back, and with Patterson having earned promotion with Sunderland from both League One and the Championship, he has what it takes to steady the defence.
Though both QPR and Millwall are also interested in striking a deal with Sunderland this month to bring him to London, with both clubs having instability with their own current goalkeeper situations.
Over the past four league games, QPR have used each of Paul Nardi, Ben Hamer, and Joe Walsh in goal, as Julien Stephan's side have struggled to nail down a number one this campaign.
Millwall have seen Steven Benda recalled from his loan by Fulham, with Lukas Jensen still out injured, leaving Max Crocombe as Alex Neil's preferred choice between the sticks at the moment.
Each club is looking to add the quality and experience that Patterson provides, and whoever does manage to obtain his signature will likely see their defence become that bit more solid.

Patterson had been the main man in goal at The Stadium of Light in each of the last three campaigns before this current one, having been handed his chance in goal during the 2021-22 season by current Millwall boss Alex Neil.
However, since Roefs arrival, Patterson has been limited to just one appearance this campaign in the EFL Cup against Huddersfield Town, and has remained as backup to the Dutchman aside from that.
At 25, Patterson will be eager not to let his career stall at Sunderland, and must leave his boyhood club in search for guaranteed game time.
Numerous sides in the second tier have expressed an interest in bringing the Englishman in, and should Sunderland seal this deal for Omlin, one could imagine that the green light will be given to Patterson to leave the club this month.
