FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on a potential Albion swoop for Dele Alli during the remainder of the season.
West Brom’s struggles in the Championship have continued in the wake of Eric Ramsay’s exit.
The Welshman’s 44-day reign in the Albion hotseat was brought to an end after a 1-1 draw at home to Charlton Athletic, which meant the former Baggies boss had failed to record a single victory from the nine Championship games he was in charge of.
After Ramsay’s departure, club legend James Morrison was once again placed in interim charge of the team, but he failed to have any influence as they fell to a 2-1 defeat at Oxford United last weekend to really damage their hopes of survival in the second tier.
Despite that, the Baggies legend has been placed in charge of the first-team for the remainder of the campaign, while the club has added technical coach Matt Gill to the backroom staff, who worked with Russell Martin at Southampton when the Saints gained promotion out of the Championship in 2024.
On the pitch, scoring goals has been a major issue for the Baggies, with the Black Country outfit ranking 19th in the division for goals scored, while they place 23rd in the standings for their conversion rate, with only 5.2% of their efforts hitting the back of the net.
Therefore, an injection of creativity is needed to help turn Albion’s slump around, but right now, they would only be able to add free agents into the building to help deal with their current plight.
A player still on the free agent list is attacking midfielder Dele Alli, who remains on the search for a new club after departing Italian outfit Como last September.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Everton midfielder had been linked with a move to The Hawthorns when Ryan Mason was in charge, competing with the likes of Birmingham City and Wrexham for his signature.
And in recent times, it has emerged that Alli is back training with Spurs to build up his fitness and find a new team, as he bids to get his career back on track.
Championship run-in.

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess says he doesn’t believe Dele Alli will be making a move to The Hawthorns for the remainder of this season, with his lack of game-time over the past few months meaning he would only be fit for a handful of Albion’s final run-in.
Callum told FLW: “There’s so little time left in the season and Dele Alli is more than likely to be nowhere near match fit with the lack of games he’s had in recent seasons, and still being a free agent up until now, it’s definitely not worth the risk.
“By the time he gets up to match speed, there’ll be just a handful of games left in the season if he even does reach that stage.
“I’d imagine with Ryan Mason not being at the club as well, there goes that link for him, so I imagine there won’t be any chance of Dele Alli turning up at Albion any time soon.”

While a move for Dele Alli would put a spotlight on West Brom from all the national outlets, it just seems a move that doesn’t need to be made at this stage of the season.
The Baggies are in desperate need of an added source of creativity to help lift them away from the relegation mire, but Alli’s inability to play regular football over the last three years means he just wouldn’t be ready for the rough and tumble of the Championship.
It would take him a few weeks to get up to full fitness in the first place, while his minutes would be managed to navigate through the relentless scheduling of the second tier.
And not to mention his wage demands. Despite the downturn of his career, he is still a former England international and Spurs midfielder, so you would imagine he would be looking for a sizeable financial deal.
And with Albion’s finances stretched to the limit already following numerous manager pay offs and PSR compliance, it may not even be something the club can entertain, particuarly when they have the threat of League One football hanging over.
There are definitely a lot more cons to this deal than pros, so with that in mind, West Brom should steer clear of a move, with free agent additions at this stage of the season taking too long to get up to speed and turn the tide.
