West Brom set week off and behind-closed-doors friendly in extended international break | OneFootball

James Morrison has granted West Brom a week off and arranged a behind-closed-doors friendly during a three-week international break, with Birmingham City visiting The Hawthorns on 10 October.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the squad paused on Monday after a hectic spell of travel and midweek games, and will return early next week.

Albion plan to face unnamed opposition on the weekend of 3/4 October, at the end of week two, then resume a normal build-up for Blues.

About half the senior group will be away, with 10 first-teamers on international duty. Jimmy-Jay Morgan, the top scorer, and Barney Stewart link up with England under-20s and Scotland under-21s.

Max O’Leary and Jayson Molumby are with the Republic of Ireland, Chris Mepham joins Wales and Callum Styles Hungary. Ousmane Diakite could add to his one Mali cap, George Campbell has an opportunity with the United States, and Isaac Price goes with Northern Ireland.

Fringe midfielder Tammer Bany has another Jordan call after a first cap last year, and is yet to feature in the Championship this season. New right-back Brayann Pereira was named by Congo this month but, it is understood, will not travel.

Morrison said the plan pre-dated the defeat at Wolves. He welcomes the breather, wants targeted work for individuals, and aims for greater flexibility. The schedule is a week off, a week’s training with a game at the end, then a standard lead-in to Blues.
