FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has commented on how much Jimmy-Jay Morgan is worth after a strong start to his Albion career.

Despite heading into the international break off a bitterly disappointing display in the Black Country derby, West Brom will remain overly optimistic about the start they’ve made under James Morrison.

The Baggies were comfortably second-best in their 1-0 defeat to Wolves at Molineux last weekend, with sheer heroics from Max O’Leary ensuring the scoreline wasn’t an embarrassing one for the visitors.

Having to stew on a derby defeat for the next three weeks, Albion still remain in the play-off mix, sitting fifth in the table after taking 14 points from their opening eight league games – a total most Baggies fans would have taken at the start of the season.

And one player who has contributed massively to that early total is Jimmy-Jay Morgan, who has managed to hit the ground running in the blue and white stripes on his debut Championship term since joining from Chelsea this summer.

Morgan has been notching attacking contributions on a regular basis during the early stages of the campaign, and mixing that together with his age and potential, he could well be a player the Baggies make such a healthy profit on when he eventually leaves The Hawthorns.

Of course, this will be dependent on him carrying on his early-season form, but there’s nothing to suggest that it will dip given the sharp rise he’s made at the beginning of his promising career.

With this in mind, FLW’s West Brom fan pundit has advised Albion on what fee they should be demanding for Morgan the following summer, should he continue to shine under Morrison.

While many West Brom supporters will not have been impressed at the lack of impact Jimmy-Jay Morgan had at Molineux last week, his overall contribution in their opening portion of the campaign has been tremendous, with the 20-year-old making the step-up to the second tier with ease.

The signs were set in pre-season, with Morgan netting seven times, before grabbing his first competitive brace for the club as they thumped Rotherham United in the opening round of the Carabao Cup.

A £1.3m arrival from Chelsea, Morgan set out what he could bring to the table on the opening day of the second tier term at Norwich City, assisting their opening goal for Aune Heggebo, before showing superb composure on a mazy run to double Albion’s advantage in East Anglia, with the Baggies going on to secure a 2-1 victory.

Morgan would follow that up in their first home game of the season with an assist in another victory over Burnley, before getting back on the scoresheet at Middlesbrough, with a precise headed finish bringing Albion back level at the time.

The talented 20-year-old would go on to add another goal to his Albion collection, securing the winning strike with a scruffy effort against Watford, while once again getting the assist for Heggebo’s clinical finish at Derby County, as Albion, against all the odds, went on to win despite being down to 10 men for over an hour.

He didn’t manage to contribute a goal or an assist in his last two Championship outings, meaning from his 10 games of competitive action in the blue and white stripes so far, Morgan has notched five goals and three assists.

West Brom told to demand eight-figure fee for Jimmy-Jay Morgan in 2027

Speaking to Football League World, West Brom fan pundit Callum Burgess has said that Albion are in a ‘strong position’ to demand an eight-figure fee for Jimmy-Jay Morgan from next summer onwards, if he continues the early marker he’s set in a Baggies shirt.

Callum told FLW: “He’s continued his positive trajectory from last season into this season. He’s almost on a combined 10 goals and assists in all competitions, with five goals and three assists so far, including the Carabao Cup.

“I think that in terms of the outlay you’re probably looking at for his potential and calibre, you’ve got to be looking at an eight-figure fee, especially when you consider the possibility of Chelsea having a sell-on clause.

“I think Albion are definitely in a strong position to be already demanding an eight-figure fee for any Premier League side that comes circling in the summer transfer window next year.”

It’s safe to say that Jimmy-Jay Morgan could not have wished for a better start in a West Brom shirt.

The 20-year-old has settled into Championship life like a duck to water and has been a continual threat in the final third throughout the early stages of the campaign, leading to him winning the EFL Young Player of the Month award for August.

Possessing the eye for a cutting-edge pass to create a chance as well as being lethal when shooting in the box himself, Morgan has all the attributes to be one of the standout forwards in the division this season, and if Albion are to be in or around promotion contention, then he will have played an integral role.

The most exciting thing is that there’s only more to come, with Morgan, at the age of 20, still having so much room to develop as a player and be even more devastating at this level.

A former Chelsea youth product, if Morgan does continue to produce the attacking numbers throughout the remainder of this season, then there’s no doubt a top-flight level club will look to poach him, although the Baggies will be beneficiaries from a financial point of view, even if they don’t go on to achieve their goal of promotion back to the Premier League.
