West Brom are working on a deal to sign French right-back Nolan Galves from Ligue 2 club Rodez. The 23-year-old is a leading target as Albion look to bolster their wide defensive options, with Southampton also pushing.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Albion hope to make progress in the coming days as talks continue, and European reports suggest both West Brom and Southampton have agreements with Rodez, leaving the final choice with Galves.

Head coach James Morrison said the club are working very hard to make further additions before the new Championship season. Galves would further the defensive rebuild after Connor Townsend’s return to The Hawthorns on Friday.

QPR and Millwall have also been linked, along with Young Boys and Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. Galves impressed for Rodez last term, making 36 appearances and eight assists, including one in the promotion and relegation play-off.

If he joins, Galves would be Albion’s sixth signing of the summer and their third defensive addition. Young centre-back Carter Pinnington arrived from Liverpool last month, before Townsend completed his return.

Defence remains a priority, and Albion are also targeting wide attackers. Mikey Johnston is currently the only recognised senior winger, and the Baggies retain interest in bringing back Danny Imray.

Morrison’s side continued pre-season on Saturday with a 4-1 win at Shrewsbury Town, while another Albion XI lost 3-1 to Notts County in a behind-closed-doors friendly.
