West Ham United manager Nuno Espirito Santo has urged the club to address gaps in his squad by making more January signings.
The club have already made one signing today, with the arrival of Keiber Lamadrid from Deportivo La Guaira. The Venezuelan winger has joined on loan with an option to make his move permanent at the end of the season.
However, Nuno did not seem enthralled with the addition of the 22-year-old.
The Portuguese coach said “He’s a young player that the club brings in. He’s in pre-season, not really ready to play. But we will assess him and see.
“The club normally seeks players for the future, young players that can help us. What I’m focussed on is now, how important our situation is.
“The club knows the profiles that we need. They need to rebalance the squad.”
West Ham have already signed two strikers on a permanent basis this summer – Pablo from Gil Vicente and Taty Castellanos from Lazio. However, the Hammers still remain in a perilous position, within the relegation zone.
Nuno continued: “Taty came in, Pablo came in, bring us a lot of options and energy.
“We keep working, nine days to go in the transfer window.
“The profiles are clear since we started working. We need to rebalance and give more options.
“Of course I’m not going to tell you the positions because that will create noise. But we are working, we are working. Still nine days to go.
“While the transfer window is open, so many surprises can happen.
“The players that are here in the building, we are counting on them.”
Whilst Nuno is desperate for more recruitments, there is also talk of departures from the London Stadium. Even though Callum Wilson scored an injury-time winner for the Hammers against Spurs last time out, the Englishman has been consistently linked with an exit.
Nuno admitted: “Callum gave us the winning goal in a match that was so important and special for our fans. That was beautiful to see and happy to take those two points.
“Like I say Callum is an option and you know what he can give us. He is working and available, an important player.”
There have also been reports that James Ward-Prowse could surprisingly join fellow relegation battlers Burnley. However, West Ham’s boss was not happy to address these links.
“You are talking about rumours and rumours are noise.
“Rumours are things that are not for us to address. When it’s something real we will address it. Rumours? What can I say about rumours.”
