West Ham can break Leeds United hearts by sanctioning a deal with Man United

West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League has led to speculation regarding the futures of key players in Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

The Hammers finished 18th in the top flight, missing out on their survival by just two points, leading to their return to the Championship.

The London outfit haven’t competed at this level since 2011/12 when Sam Allardyce led the club to promotion through the play-offs.

But it remains to be seen whether the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Mateus Fernandes or Aaron Wan Bissaka, among others, will be a part of a promotion push in the next campaign, with several significant departures expected in order to raise funds as part of the club's rebuilding process.

It could be a tricky couple of months ahead if the Hammers look to keep these top stars, with clubs already circling.

It was reported this week that Summerville has been given a £50 million price tag as speculation begins to mount on his future at the London Stadium.

Manchester United have been linked with a move for Summerville this summer following their third place finish in the Premier League.

Michael Carrick will be keen to bolster his squad, with the Red Devils qualifying for the Champions League for next season.

While there is uncertainty over Marcus Rashford’s future, the West Ham forward could act as a possible replacement if the 28-year-old is sold.

Summerville made the switch to the Hammers in 2024 from Leeds United, and has become an important part of the side in that time.

The Dutchman had a tricky first campaign, starting just seven of his 19 appearances in the Premier League, but he played on 31 occasions in 2025/26.

And it would be a real sting for Leeds supporters to now see him earn the move to Old Trafford this summer.

The two clubs enjoy a heated rivalry, with the Whites getting the better of Carrick’s side in a 2-1 win in their last meeting.

However, it would be a real coup for the Red Devils to secure the services of someone who departed Elland Road as a beloved figure, and the talented winger remains a firm favourite in West Yorkshire to this day.

Summerville’s exit came as a result of the club’s loss in the Championship play-off final to Southampton two years ago, and he likely would’ve stayed had they been able to win against the Saints.

West Ham move didn’t work out how Crysencio Summerville hoped

Summerville joined West Ham just 12 months on from their success in the UEFA Conference League.

He moved to a club that had the ambition to continue competing in European competition on a regular basis, leaving Leeds as they had been consigned to another year in the second tier.

But it’s now Daniel Farke’s side that have survived in the top flight, and the Hammers who are preparing for life in the Championship.

So the move hasn’t worked out how the 24-year-old would have hoped, even if he is now competing in the World Cup for the Netherlands off the back of his Premier League performances.

But signing for Man United would offer him an escape from the second division, and allow him to again leapfrog Leeds and compete on the biggest stage in club football in the Champions League.

By setting a £50 million price tag, West Ham have essentially left the door open for his exit, and Man United could be willing to bite at that kind of figure.

The fees paid for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both exceeded that value 12 months ago, so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Red Devils agree to a deal.

It would be a blow for West Ham to lose someone that could play a key role in a promotion push, but it might be Leeds who are most heartbroken of all from this potential transfer.
