West Ham United claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday.
Callum Wilson scored the decisive goal to secure the victory.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side had their backs against the wall for most of the game but showed the required doggedness to get the result.
West Ham were constantly under pressure, and the defence needed to hold firm.
Konstantinos Mavropanos and Jean-Clair Todibo did so with aplomb. The latter had an outstanding game.
Todibo started finding his groove in recent weeks before delivering this colossal performance in the rearguard.
The Frenchman won seven out of nine duels, made 10 defensive contributions, one interception and won three out of five tackles.
He also recorded three clearances, blocked a shot and made nine recoveries.
Todibo was also efficient on the ball, completing 41 of 45 passes and losing possession only six times.
When he first signed, he looked like quite the prospect on paper, but his performances were concerning.
However, Todibo has improved this season. This performance is the blueprint West Ham must now commit to for the remainder of the season.
The Hammers are in a relegation scrap because of their porous defence. They have often folded under pressure and lacked organisation.
However, there was a collective resolve and discipline against Tottenham that had been missing for long spells.
If West Ham can reproduce this level of concentration, physicality and structure every week, they will give themselves a fighting chance.
