West Ham have been linked with a move for Dael Fry

West Ham will be looking to build a team capable of earning promotion to the Premier League this summer.

The Hammers finished 18th in the top flight, suffering relegation to the Championship after a 14-year stint in the division.

The London outfit spent just one season in the second tier when they were relegated in 2011, with Sam Allardyce leading the club to promotion through the play-offs in 2012.

Nuno Espirito Santo will be targeting similar success for the upcoming campaign, and has previous experience of success at this level from his time at Wolves.

The 52-year-old led the Old Gold to the title in 2018, and this will be his first time working at this level since then.

And it is set to be a busy summer of incomings and outgoings, with the market running until 1 September.

It has been reported by insider ex-West Ham Employee that the Hammers have cooled their interest in a deal for Dael Fry.

The Middlesbrough defender’s future is up in the air, with his contract now expired and no extension yet signed.

The Irons had been linked with a deal for the centre-back, but are now set to focus on other targets instead.

It was claimed earlier this week that Boro are still in negotiations with the 28-year-old, but that no agreement is yet close.

But the opportunity to sign for West Ham is now set to be closed off, with the London outfit now looking at alternative options.

The Championship side had seen Fry as a reasonably priced option to bolster their defensive options, but the club are now turning their attention to other options with their transfer budget expanding.

West Ham agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur this week to sell Mateus Fernandes for £85 million.

How do West Ham fans feel about Dael Fry stance

West Ham’s decision to cool their interest in Fry has received a mix response, with some suggesting that he’d still be a good addition to the side for next season.

However, others are happy to see the club move on to other options, as they express their excitement at the Hammers looking to spend.

Meanwhile, others have thanked Spurs for paying £85 million for Fernandes, which will bolster the club’s spending power this summer.

And Middlesbrough fans have expressed their desire to see Fry remain at the Riverside next season given his importance to Kim Hellberg’s side.

Fry made 29 appearances for Boro in the regular campaign last season, helping the team finish fifth in the table.

Dael Fry staying at Middlesbrough is his best option now

A move to West Ham would’ve been tempting given they are likely to contend for automatic promotion next season.

But if that opportunity is now no longer on the table, then staying at Boro for another year, at least, might be his best option.

Middlesbrough’s reluctance to agree terms due to his injury issues is sensible, but he is still someone Hellberg will surely want to have in the squad.

The 28-year-old is an experienced defender who knows what it takes to fight for promotion in the Championship, and it could be an expensive endeavour trying to replace him if he is let walk away for nothing.
