West Ham Move Doesn’t Feel Right For Top Talent Insists Journalist | OneFootball

A move to West Ham United would not be the right move for Viking winger Edvin Austbo, a Norwegian journalist has claimed.

Austbo has drawn major attention through his performances in Norway for Viking and has now put himself on the radar of big European sides.

The 21-year-old was the subject of an approach from West Ham at the weekend, with the Hammers putting in an offer of £7.8m to take him to the London Stadium.

Viking knocked back the proposal as they are keen to have Austbo at their disposal for their Champions League qualifying games.

West Ham have not yet come back with a new offer for the winger, who also has interest from clubs in the Netherlands and Belgium, with offers also sent.

For Norwegian journalist Eirik Aase, moving to West Ham would not be the right switch for Austbo, especially given the Hammers have just signed Manor Solomon from Tottenham Hotspur.

He wrote on X: “Edvin Austbo in the Championship would obviously have been fun from my point of view, but West Ham United doesn’t feel like the right move after they signed Manor Solomon yesterday.

“The competition for playing time would be extremely tough, and Austbo would most likely be brought in as second choice from the outset. Not ideal.”

Lille made a move for the winger in the winter transfer window and put around £10.5m on the table, which was also not good enough to cause Viking to do business.

Austbo is considered to be a top talent by Viking and they will not be in the mood to lose him for anything less than a substantial sum.

Viking are due to enter the Champions League qualifiers at the playoff round stage, where they will face the winners of Dinamo Zagreb and Zalgris Kaunas.

Should the Norwegian side progress into the league phase then that would only boost their determination to keep hold of Austbo for longer.

That may point instead to a winter window switch for the top talent.
