West Ham United are pushing to sign Athletic Bilbao left-back Adam Boiro on loan with an option to buy before the deadline

West Ham United are looking for a new left-back before the end of the window following the sale of El Hadji Malick Diouf to Brentford, and have seemingly identified Athletic Bilbao's Adam Boiro as his heir.

According to ExWHUEmployee, West Ham are in talks with Spanish outfit Athletic Bilbao over a potential deal for Boiro, which would see the 24-year-old arrive in London on an initial loan with an option to buy.

The Hammers are in the market for a new left back on deadline day following the recent sale of Diouf to city rivals Brentford, and have seemingly identified Boiro as a potential candidate.

West Ham, following the £40 million sale of Diouf to Brentford, have waited until the final day of the summer window to try and get a replacement in, with Boiro having emerged on their radar.

The six-foot left-back has spent his entire professional career in Spain, coming through the youth ranks of Osasuna, where Iñaki Pacheco, who worked at the club during Boiro's progression, previously described him as 'a force of nature'.

Boiro has since gone on to represent the Basque club on 45 occasions across all competitions, including in the Champions League, but with Yuri Berchiche ahead of him in the pecking order at San Mames, his minutes have been limited, as West Ham look to take advantage of the situation.

With Diouf gone, this leaves just Ollie Scarles and Ezra Mayers as the only other recognised left-back options in the current West Ham squad.

Failure to sign another option in this area would be a huge risk for West Ham, with neither Scarles nor Mayers having played too much professional football in their young careers thus far.

Scarles has reportedly been the subject of a rejected approach from Italian side Torino, as West Ham look to retain what few defensive options in that area remain.

At 24, Boiro doesn't have too much first-team football under his belt either, but having been in and around an elite environment for the past couple of years, is surely more ready-made for that left-back role at the London Stadium than either of their current options.

A loan with an option to buy means the Hammers are not committed to any deal beyond this season, as should Boiro's move not work out, then they have not wasted their money, and if he is a hit, then a permanent deal is ready to be struck, as negotiations between West Ham and Bilbao rage on.
